San Carlos Volcanic Field is located in eastern Arizona, USA. This volcanic field covers an area of approximately 4,700 square miles and consists of over 400 volcanic vents. The majority of the volcanic material in this field is basaltic in composition. The volcanic activity in this field occurred between about 15 and 25 million years ago. The most prominent volcanic feature in this field is Mount Graham, which is a peak of over 10,000 feet that dominates the surrounding landscape. The San Carlos Volcanic Field is considered to be an extinct volcanic field, as there has been no volcanic activity there for millions of years. Today, the area is known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and cultural significance to local tribes, including the Apache.
